One of the best ways to quickly develop your vision of a new software product (or overhaul of an existing one) is to visit Design Pattern Libraries, that can show you how other talented designers have laid out interfaces for certain functions.
I’ve gathered together links to useful design pattern libraries for both desktop & mobile software interfaces. You can visit them & search for certain kinds of functions you want to create, or browse through their library to get inspired with color, layout, and interaction designs that are cutting-edge.
Desktop software pattern libraries
UI Patterns : “User Interface Design patterns are recurring solutions that solve common design problems. Design patterns are standard reference points for the experienced user interface designer.”
Patterny: “Building blocks and patterns for faster Web design & development”
Elements of Design: “a different type of web design showcase focusing on specific aspects of web design such as headings, footers, search boxes, buttons, and so on. The web design galleries are designed to be easy to scan with minimal clicking — making it easy to find inspiration or see what conventions exist for a variety of common web design elements.”
Pattern Tap: “Hundreds of thousands of people come through ZURB University, where they get the training they need to be awesome Product Designers. ZURB’s courses, workshops, library of reference materials, and design community get you the Product Design skills you need to design better products faster.”
Mobile app design pattern libraries
Mobile Patterns: “Design patterns are repeatable solutions to problems. Some of the screens you see on this site are good solutions – but there is a lot of variance in the mobile design world. If you want to read more about patterns, go study up on Christopher Alexander. This site isn’t quite there to live up to the name, but hopefully one day we’ll abstract the design patterns from the screenshots.”
